SolarCity NT was started by Neill Carberry in 2017, and in the years since it’s grown into a team of 13 who’ve now completed more than 1500 residential installations across the Darwin region. That kind of volume tends to mean a business has worked through pretty much every roof type, orientation and edge case Darwin can throw at them, so by the time they get to your place, there’s not much they haven’t seen before.
Neill brings a genuinely technical background to the business, holding a degree in Building and Electrical Services Engineering along with several trade qualifications, and he cut his teeth working as an electrical supervisor in both Perth and Darwin before starting SolarCity NT. He’s also involved with the Smart Energy Council NT and the Master Builders Association NT, which puts him in the room for the industry conversations that shape how solar gets done properly in the Territory, not just reading about them after the fact.
The commercial side of the business backs this up. They’ve delivered systems for Palmerston Library, Mother Teresa Catholic School and the Adina Apartment Hotel on Darwin Harbour, and developed their own modular solar units, called Solaris, for remote locations where a standard install isn’t practical. Handling that kind of project alongside residential work means the team is used to solving harder problems than a typical rooftop job usually presents.
For equipment, they work with Sungrow and Fronius inverters, and offer battery options from Tesla, Sigenergy, Sungrow and Alpha, all trusted products that have proven themselves capable of handling Darwin’s heat and humidity rather than just performing well on paper. Having a genuine choice across proven battery brands means the system you end up with is picked because it suits your home.
At the end of the day, SolarCity NT is a Darwin business, run by people who live here, employ locally, and have spent years building something that’s genuinely part of this community, not a franchise passing through. If you’re after a local team who’ll back their work and with more than 1500 jobs behind them to prove it, SolarCity NT is worth a call.

From the initial online request they responded within an hour, had a quote that day and spoke with Mel about what was possible and a plan was hatched very quickly. We had rain, floods and a cyclone during the planned install, trucks stuck with the gear onboard in floods, but in the end we got it done. The team on the ground led by Dan explained everything, and the results speak for themselves, my fully tweaked PV set up maxed out a 15.9KW peak, designed for 10 originally. 100% would recommend SolarCity NT, the workmanship on everything is evident. Thanks to all the team for making it happen, soon to be EV ready.
Mel and his team at Solar City were first class and so far could not be happier. Installation occurred when said it would and Daniel and his installation team were just first rate, being absolute perfectionists and obviously took a pride in their work. They were interested in my input as to positioning of batteries etc and ensuring a very clean and good looking installation. I am looking forward to continuing my relationship with Solar City and their general oversight as to system functioning which is nice to have. Well done guys!
Mel and the team at Solar City have always been nothing short of outstanding. They understand their product and stand by it, every question answered! We are thrilled to be up and running with our solar and battery installation. 3 years later we are still proud and happy customers!
